The wind blows wherever it pleases...
During the funeral Mass of Pope Francis, a gentle breeze would occasionally meander its way through St Peter’s Square square, noticeable by the fluttering of priestly vestments and even turning the pages of the Book of Gospels placed on the coffin.
In John’s Gospel Jesus said to Nicodemus: “The wind blows wherever it pleases; you hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. That is how it is with all who are born of the Spirit.” (3 : 8)
And when Elijah took shelter in a cave on Mount Horeb, he discovered the Lord was not to be found in the mighty wind, or the earthquake that followed and then the fire, but instead he encountered God in the sound of the gentle breeze. (1 Kings 19 : 11-12)
The above image shows the gentle breeze at the Pope’s funeral opening the Book of Gospels at the reading “In the Passion and Death of the Lord”.
Note the shape of the book. The two open pages form the wings of a Dove as representing the Holy Spirit, and its head and open beak protrude from behind the upright wing.
Could it have been the same Spirit that inspired the meeting between Presidents Bush and Zelensky, pictured below during a private conversation in St Peter’s prior to the funeral Mass?

Peace, Peace, Peace, only Peace!
Reconcile with God and each other!
